Where's My Confidence?/¿Dónde Está Mi Confianza?

Most of you know that, this year, I will be training for my third marathon (each: 26.2 miles) with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. And, it's the big one... NYC! Training started a month ago. It's been crazy! I haven't run all winter. So, I decided to join an extra running class yesterday. Of course, I dragged my husband along for the ride. How did it go, you ask? Well, in the middle of the class, as everyone passed me, I reverted to 2nd grade. A time when my self confidence was low. On the sixth 200 meter, my husband asked how I was doing and I almost cried. Serious! I don't know what happened! Where was the confident Erin?
Then, on the eigth one, something happened. Everyone started cheering for me to finish. In that moment, it hit me! I am not competing with them. They are not judging me. And, even if they were, that's their problem. The only person judging me was.... me! So, I said a quick prayer. "God, please help me be kind to myself".
So, did I finish? Yup! Not well, but who's judging? My confident side says, "not I"!

Un tiempo cuando mi confianza en sí mismo fue baja. En el sexto 200 metro, mi marido preguntó cómo hacía y... yo casi lloré. ¡Realmente! ¡Yo no sé lo que paso! ¿Dónde estuvo el Erin seguro?
Entonces, en el octavo uno, algo sucedió. Todos empezaron a vitorear para mí terminar. ¡En ese momento, me golpeó! Yo no compito con ellos. Ellos no me juzgan. Y, incluso si ellos fueran, eso es su problema. ¡La única persona que juzga mí fue. ... mí! Así, dije una oración rápida. "Dios, por favor me ayuda soy amable a yo". ¿Así, terminé yo? ¡Sí! ¿No bien, pero quién juzga? ¡Mi lado seguro dice, "no yo"!

Burma/Birmania

After a cyclone this past Saturday, Burma (Myanmar) has become a country so in need. This is not the first sign of trouble for this junta run country. Political and religious unrest has caused the Dalai Lama to speak out (see my blog "Dalai Lama Steps Down?/¿El Dalai Lama Renuncía?" under the archive "03/16 - 03/23").
But, will they accept the help of countries they have repeatedly turned away for years now? They say they will, but are making it very difficult. All we can do is wait and pray. In the meantime, the military that is running this country and so at odds with its own people, have a real opportunity. They could win the hearts and souls of the people by a swift response. Mexico's independence day! Nope. Actually, the independence day for Mexicans is September 16th. Cinco de Mayo is actually a celebration of the Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862, It was a battle in which the Mexicans had a victory over the French.
In fact, the only place in Mexico that this day is really celebrated is in Puebla. In America, it is huge though!! But, it has become more of a day to celebrate Mexican American traditions and heritage. So, make some guacamole, fry up some churros and click on the title "5th of May" for the entire history of this day.

Skulls Are Cooking/Los Cráneos Cocinan

Yup... the skulls are cooking in the kitchen! Not really, April fool! But Hana Odson, a 10 year old in Cali has come up with some really cool kitchen gear. Her skull collection for the kitchen has become such a hit, her grandma is now helping out. The adults, teens and children all came together for a wonderful Easter celebration. This was their first time working together as a VERY large group. I knew they would do well, but they did better than well! All three groups really showed why this is their ministry. Thank you to all of them and their hard work.

World Water Day!/Día de Agua del Mundo

K- so, water... we drink it, wash with it... take 20 minute showers with it (sadly, that would be me). In other parts of the world, it's not that easy. About 1 in 6 people have trouble getting clean, safe water. Now, I know you're asking... "what can I do?" Well, I'm so glad you asked! March 22nd is World Water Day. So, click on the title "World Water Day" and see how you can make a HUGE difference. Donate money, time or just read. Knowledge is power! Really! I didn't know about this until I researched it today. Next time I shower, I'll be thinking twice about letting 20 minutes go by! I'll remember how fortunate I am as people are blessed tonight with the washing of the feet.

An outspoken supporter and active participant of peaceful resolutions, he is an example of how peace can effect the world. I pray that peace will come to that part of our world. In Dublin, Ireland there seems to be more joy this year as they celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Northern Ireland is looking to a new era of peace. How appropriate! As "On the Hill" celebrates their patron saint today, we have entered into the holiest week of our church year. We wait for the death and rising of our saviour that will bring peace. As Ireland's food menu expands, people "On the Hill" have kept it traditional. After the 9 a.m. mass on St. Patrick's Day, we have traditional Irish Soda Bread. This is topped off with some "special" coffee. If you had a bit o' the chill from the weather this year... you should have had some coffee. Every year, people donate their time and recipes for this celebration. I have been lucky enough to sample the results of these recipes. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

The Last Great Race/La Gran Ultima Carrera

The Iditarod. One of the most incredible races on Earth. 1150 miles of the craziest, most beautiful terrain you have ever seen! The dogs used to pull the sleds are usually some form of Husky. That is Leelu...my Siberian Husky and my proxy daughter (until I have a human one). And, no, I'm not a Giants fan... blame my husband! We haven't trained her to pull a sled, but if you put a harness on her... off she goes. Some people disagree with the race. All I know is, my husky would die if I didn't take out that harness a few times a week. Really, she stares at it. And, that is the point. Last night, in a frenzy of pizza and sheet music, 50 members of my choirs stormed the Parish Hall. These volunteers lifted everyone's spirits with their music. Children, youth and adults all came to practice for our highest celebration...Easter! They are not dead to their calling in life!

Blind and Deaf/Ciega y Sorda

This photo of Helen Keller and her teacher was just uncovered.... during a week when this past Sunday's gospel was about the blind seeing! Last night, I had rehaersals with the children's choir and the adult choir. The music was so beautiful. Both groups have improved so much and I am proud of their hard work. What would I do if I could not hear their music? But then I look at this photo, released today. It's not always about what you hear or see physically. We don't always have to use our ears and eyes to be touched by music... art... science.... God...... Helen Keller is a reminder to me to listen with my spirit. She could have given up or felt sorry for herself. Instead, she used the gifts she was given to become a famous author and humanitarian. For me, she is a perfect example of the Gospel this week. Anoche tuve ensayo con el coro de niños y coro adulto. La música fue tan hermosa. Todos grupos han mejorado tanto y soy muy feliz con su trabajo dedicado. ¿Cómo me sentiría yo si yo no podría oír su música? Entonces miro esta foto, liberado hoy. No es siempre lo que usted oye o ve con orejas y ojos. Nosotros no siempre necesitamos las orejas y los ojos para ser tocados por la música... el arte... la ciencia... Dios. Helen Keller es un recordatorio para mí a escuchar con mi espíritu. Ella podría haber renunciado o llega a ser desparate. Father Marcelo Rossi, 40-year-old priest from Sao Paulo, is outselling the most popular secular performers in Brazil, the magazine Veja reports. His latest CD, entitled "My Blessings," has sold 1.3 million copies. Father Rossi, who also hosts a popular radio program, donates all the receipts from the sales of his music to charity. "

Easter is coming!!!! This is the time to inspire those that don't normally come to church to start coming regularly. The music ministry is largely responsible for this. Therefore, I would like all choirs to be involved on Easter Sunday. We will have an "all choir" rehearsal on March 10th/8:30p.m.... (ESP)Pascua viene. Esto es el tiempo de inspirar ésos que no viene normalmente a la iglesia...el momento es ahora para empezar. El ministerio de la música es muy responsable de esto. Así, querría que todos coros canten para Domingo de Pascua. Tendremos un "todo coro" ensayo en el 10 de marzo/8:30 p.m..
